Kapurthala
is a city in punjab state of india. Kapurthala district in many
ways an unique and harmonious blend of the glorious past, pulsating
present and a promising future.It was the former capital of princely
sate of british india of the same name. Kapurthala is a native state
of india with in punjab. It is the administrative headquarter of
kapurthala district.Kapurthala was founded in the 11th century by
Rana Kapur of Jaisalmer, from whom it derives its name. . It is
the administrative headquarter of kapurthala district. kapurthala
has a significant architectural leegacy. A gerat enthusiast of french
architecture, he had place built for himself by the famous architect
M.Manteaus. With many other buildings and monuments associated it
with Maharajas, kapurthala sure has a lot to offer to a tourist.
The present District of Kapurthala, derives its name from the Town
of Kapurthala, which was the capital of the former Princely State
of the same name. Prior to 1947, Kapurthala was a unique example
of true secularism. Ruled by a Sikh Ruler, sixty percent of the
population of the former State, comprised Muslims, both of the Shia
and Sunni persuasion. The State gave full representation to the
Muslim community, who held honoured places of distinction and merit
in all walks of life in the State and its administration. Further
the district is divided into two noncontiguous parts viz. Phagwara
block in one part and the remaining four blocks in the other part.
The economy of the district is still predominantly agricultural.
The major crops grown are Wheat, Paddy, Sugarcane, Potato and maize.
The major portion of Kapurthala district lies in the river interact
between Beas and Kali-Bein and is called the ‘BET’ area.
Kapurthala was a unique example of true secularism. Ruled by a Sikh
Ruler, sixty percent of the population of the former State, comprised
Muslims, both of the Shia and Sunni persuasion. Kapurthala is a
city with a colourful past.It is a city of beautiful buildings and
boulevards. Panch Mandir, Moorish Mosque, Shalimar Garden, Jagjit
Palace (now Sainik School) have few equals in design and construction.
